ASF director summoned after Saudi national manhandled at airport

ISLAMABAD: Taking notice of a manhandling incident of a Saudi national by Airport Security Force (ASF) officials at Islamabad airport, the defence ministry on Thursday has summoned the director of the security agency, DawnNews reported.

An official of the Saudi embassy, Saeed al-Shehri, was hurried to a hospital when he sustained severe injuries during a scuffle with ASF officials at Benazir International Airport.

Al-Shehri was at the airport to catch a flight to Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador in Pakistan Abdul Aziz Ibrahim al-Ghadeer visited the injured at the hospital.

Secretary Defence Nargis Sethi, by taking notice of the incident, has ordered a report within 24 hours.

According to reports, ASF officials assaulted al-Shehri after an exchange of harsh words. The scuffle took place when security staff at the airport stopped the Saudi national for a routine security check.

FIR of the incident has also been registered at the Airport Police Station, said police sources.
