5 girls ‘assaulted’ at police station
DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 9: Five girls were allegedly raped by personnel of the Border Military Police (BMP) at a police station in Fort Munro, a hill resort some 85km from here in the tribal area of Suleman Range.
The BMP registered a case against five accused on the complaint of a relative of the girls at the same police station.
According to sources, the girls hailing from Lahore and Bahawalpur, along with a man from Dera Ghazi Khan, who claimed to be their relative, had gone to Fort Munro. After some time they were asked by BMP staff to prove their identities.
They were taken to the police station, where the girls were raped allegedly by Sawars Amjad Ali, Zafar and Naveed, Majeed Leghari and an unidentified man on Thursday night.
The man accompanying the girls lodged an application with BMP commandant Tariq Ali Basra against the accused.
Mr Basra said he had held an inquiry on Friday at the police station and after preliminary investigation, suspended from service Amjad, Zafar and Naveed.
He claimed the girls neither had computerised national identity cards nor did they divulge their addresses.
Fort Munro BMP registered a case against the five accused, including the three BMP personnel, under Sections 376-2/392/342/34.
However, the accused BMP men refused to surrender to police and are at large.
The girls were sent to Darul Amaan after completion of paperwork.
