Acute water shortage in Dera, Dir villages

ERA ISMAIL KHAN, June 11: Residents of Gul Imam, a sub-town some 15 kilometers from Tank, have been facing acute water shortage for the last several months but the public health administration has adopted silence over the issue.

Over 10,000 dwellers are forced to consume polluted water of rainy ponds. A number of families have reportedly fled the area owing to prolonged problem of water paucity.

Residents told this scribe two tube-wells were installed in Amakhel, another village some 15km from Gul Imam, to provide clean potable water to residents. But in the absence of proper maintenance as well as smooth power supply the tube-wells could no longer serve the people. Residents called upon the chief minister to take notice of the situation.

TIMERGARA: Residents of Sharab Kohi village in Adenzai on Monday took out a protest procession against the water supply and sanitation department for failing to provide the community with clean drinking water.

The protesters marched on Ramora-Chakdara road and gathered in front of the Chakdara Press Club. They blocked the road for some time and chanted slogans against the government and concerned authorities. Elders of the area alleged that water supply scheme of the village had been out of order for the last four months.
