Pilgrims stranded at Sukkur airport

SUKKUR, July 28: More than 100 Umra pilgrims, including women and children, scheduled to fly to Karachi on Friday by a PIA flight for onward journey to Jeddah remained stranded at the airport here for 24 hours.

Since the flight from Lahore couldn’t reach Sukkur therefore they also missed the connecting flight from Karachi to Jeddah. The flight was scheduled to leave Karachi at 6am on Saturday.

PIA authorities said that the listed flight PK-391 couldn’t arrive here on Friday from Lahore because of some technical fault and passengers spent the night at the airport.

Station Manager, PIA, Sukkur, Mohammad Saleh Hashmi said the passengers left Sukkur on Saturday at 5.30pm, adding that arrangements have been made to send them from Karachi to Jeddah on Sunday at 6am.

Abdul Rehman Chachar, Saifullah Soomro and other passengers told the media that PIA made no proper arrangements for their overnight stay and housed them at hotels where there were no arrangements for Iftar and Sehari.

Passengers again were called at the airport in the morning and had to wait for entire day.
