LARKANA: Police torture housewife
LARKANA, Dec 20: The left hand of a housewife, Anwar Khatoon, was fractured in police torture after the Mirokhan police broke into her house in Shahpur village on Friday and resorted to violence against the inmates.
The police entered the house to look for her son, who is accused of being involved in setting a rice mills ablaze.
Later, Ms Anwar was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital here, where her husband, Rasool Bakhsh Kohkar, told newsmen that sub-inspector Mohammad Hassan Abro and ASI Nadir Bhatti sneaked into his house early Friday morning.
They were searching for his son, Hubdar, in connection with an FIR, he said, adding that the police maltreated and beat up the inmates, including the womenfolk.
The police were investigating a case of setting an area rice mill ablaze, he said.
Khokhar said that he would lodge an FIR with the Mirokhan police against the police team.
The Mirokhan police, when contacted, said that the officials concerned had gone to the town for an investigation.
INQUIRY DEMANDED: The Awami Councillors’ Alliance of union council-9, Larkana, have demanded an investigation into substandard development work, done under phase-III of the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, in the UC area.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Mohammed Siddiq Pirzado, Zawar Mushtaq Ali Khichi and Dr Tanveer Gaad, who had conducted a survey of the development work undertaken so far, alleged that substandard material had been used in the work. They said that they visited the seven schemes and found that some of the schemes were left unfinished.
