DADU, Dec 23: A large number of fishermen from Manchhar Lake staged a demonstration outside the local press club on Monday against the fisheries officials.

The fishermen were carrying banners and raising slogans against the contractor of Manchhar Lake and the officials of the fisheries department, Sindh.

Talking to journalists, the protesting fishermen said that they had paid Rs3.5 million to the fisheries department for award of license for fishing in Manchhar Lake.

They alleged that the officials, after receiving a huge amount as a bribe from an influential contractor, had awarded him the contract of fishing in the lake against only two million rupees.

They warned that if the contract was not cancelled and the licence system was not introduced for fishing in the lake, they would extend the scope their protest.

Later, the fishermen also staged another demonstration outside the office of the DCO, Dadu.

DCO Allah Dito Shar met the fishermen and assured them that he would write to the high officials of the fisheries department for restoring the licence system for fishing in the lake.

TEACHERS: Over 200 dismissed primary teachers of Dadu district staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Monday against their sacking.

Speaking at the rally, Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh and Abdul Rehman Panhwar demanded reinstatement of the teachers, who had been sacked two years ago.

LOAD-SHEDDING: Power supply to Dadu city remained suspended for nine hours on Monday, which affected business and other activities.

A demonstration was held by the residents of the city against the unscheduled load-shedding.

The protesters alleged that Hesco official were illegally supplying electricity to the factories and to cover losses, they were resorting to load-shedding and issuing inflated bills to the consumers.
