Son of tribal elder shot dead in Hangu
KOHAT, Aug 25: Unidentified persons shot dead the son of a tribal elder in Hangu district on Saturday.
Police said that Faisal, son of tribal elder Malik Hussain, was killed in an ambush in Mohallah Al-Shiravi in Hangu city. The family of the victim belongs to Rabiakhel area of upper Orakzai Agency, however, it has been living in Hangu for the last two years.
Sources said that he might have been killed by militants as the tribal elder supported military operation, launched in Orakzai Agency against Taliban.
Several prominent persons, including a former provincial minister and district nazim, have been killed in Hangu for opposing militants since 2010.
In Nowshera, an alleged commander of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan was arrested during a joint raid on Saturday.
According to official sources, Taliban commander Mohammad Farooq Mehsud was arrested during a raid on a mosque in Kheshgi area of the district.
They said that Maulvi Abdul Qadeer, the prayer leader of the mosque, and his children were also arrested.
Sources said that important documents including maps were also recovered from the possession of the Taliban commander. They said he had come to Kheshgi to meet Maulvi Abdul Qadeer. However, Maulvi Qadeer and his children were later released, sources added.
In Mohmand Agency, a security man was injured when an improvised explosive device went off during a search operation in Qandhari area of Safi teshil on Saturday.
Officials said that security forces were conducting a search operation in the area when two explosive devices went off. As a result, a security official was injured. He was shifted to Peshawar for treatment.
Security forces cordoned off the area after the incident and arrested several suspects. The arrested persons were shifted to the headquarters of Mohmand Rifles for interrogation. Meanwhile, the body of a local tribesman was found in the fields of Bahi Kor area of tehsil Ekkaghund on Saturday. The victim was identified as Naseeb Jan, a resident of Banglo village in Mohmand Agency.
