JSQM gives strike call for Oct 1

NAWABSHAH, Sept 27: The Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz (JSQM) has announced a shutter-down strike throughout Sindh for Oct 1 in protest against Nawabshah police failure to register an FIR of what they described as the murder of former JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi.

Thousands of JSQM workers reached Sakrand on Thursday to register the FIR. Party chairman Sannan Qureshi, son of Bashir Khan Qureshi, was leading them outside the Sakrand police station. The protesters were carrying party flags and portraits of G.M.Syed and Bashir Qureshi.

Sannan Qureshi, his uncle Masood Qureshi and senior party leaders including senior-vice chairman Akash Mallah, vice-chairman Dr Niaz Kalani, Asif Baladi, Sarfaraz Memon and Kehar Ansari met the SHO. They submitted an application and demanded registration of the FIR.

But the police officer told them that the FIR would be lodged after the arrival of the DSP.The leaders and protesters kept waiting for hours but the police did not register the case. No senior official reached there.

The protesters moved to the National Highway and held a sit-in, blocking the highway for about two hours. Traffic towards Karachi and upcountry remained suspended during the protest. The enraged protesters resorted to firing into the air and pelted trailers with stones.

Sannan Qureshi said that earlier the state elements had tried to kill his father twice, but failed and later they poisoned him to death.

He termed the murder a conspiracy against Sindh and vowed to continue the peaceful struggle for the independence of Sindh.
