Fair polls not possible under Zardari: JI
MARDAN, Sept 30: Jamaat-i-Islami amir Syed Munawar Hasan has said that fair, free and transparent elections are impossible under President Asif Ali Zardari.
Addressing the Shabab-i-Milli youth convention titled “Azam-i-Islami Inqilab” held here at the bank road Mardan on Sunday, Munawar Hasan said all political parties wanted fair and free general elections but it was not possible in the presence of Asif Ali Zardari as President of Pakistan.
The JI chief said they were against the kind of Sharia propagated by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in which he wanted to occupy more and more ministries.
Mr Hasan said the US and its allied western countries had failed to defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan despite the fact that they were well-equipped with latest and sophisticated arms compared to Taliban. He claimed that now America and western countries had been making blasphemous movies to take revenge of their defeat in Afghanistan.
The JI amir complained that the media outlets, both print and electronic, didn’t give much coverage to the JI public meetings.
He deplored that address of the MQM chief Altaf Hussain was telecast live over private TV channels for hours, adding the electronic media owners had been feeling pressure from what he said terrorists and target killers.
He accused the PPP-led central government and ANP-led provincial government of giving nothing to masses in their tenure except price hike, unemployment, deteriorating law and order situation, target killings, loadshedding, destruction of national institutions and corruption.
Central president of Shabab-i-Milli Atiq-ur-Rehman, JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa acting amir Shabir Ahmad Khan, naib amir Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and other prominent leaders were among those attended the convention.
