LAHORE: The Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) in collaboration with a known cosmetics brand launched the second season of the four-day Bridal Week 2012 at a local club on Wednesday evening. (Click here to see photos from the show)

The event provides a platform to designers and make-up artists to celebrate the best in bridal fashions and emerging make-up trends.

The show got off to a start with a show reel of Meesha Shafi doing a cover of Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend and moments from the previous week held in Karachi.

Stylist for the day, Nabila, opened her trends show which saw a manufacturing line concept come alive on the ramp and fashion model supreme Ayyan sashayed onto the ramp in a flesh-coloured garment where Nabila’s helpers dressed her up in designer Zaheer Abbas’ golden shimmer and dusty pink robes with add-ons and a cape to match with bling motifs. Further on down, Nabila herself came on the ramp to put on an elaborate hair piece before she made her way to a showcase-like structure placed at the edge of the ramp to execute the Paper Doll concept.

This was followed by new designer Misha Lakhani showing her bridal collection comprising select pieces which she had showed earlier during her shop opening in Karachi. She coupled them with fresh new pieces that saw an open end coat worn by Mehreen Syed and more embellished by silk thread embroidered flower motifs on classic angarkha cuts. The strong point of the designer’s collection was her loyalty to tradition which she kept alive and a strong streak of which could be seen throughout the collection.

Azza from New York City showed jewelled collars and sleeves on flowy western silhouettes in sheer fabric and solid colours.

According to the show reel preceding the show, the label just celebrated its first year in fashion this month. The cuts were kept marginally simple yet classy to create oomph and drama on the ramp. The ivory collection easily stood out from the rest here.

Sonia Azhar’s Dark Romance fantasy featured traditional heavily-worked shararas and paneled long kameezes with elaborate hair done up with black net. Velvet trail lehengas in warm shades of red continued the bling-inspired fantasy in ivory, flesh pink, classic black and lime greens. The show concluded Day One.

Day Two of the event will feature Asifa & Nabeel, Teena by Hina Butt and The Ali Xeeshan Theatre Studio with hair and make-up by Maram Abroo with Zara Shahjehan for the trends show which is a standard feature on all the four days. The show production and choreography is by HSY, front stage management by Maheen Kardar Ali, backstage management by Asim Naeem and PR by Lotus.
