Attock to have AIOU’s regional centre

ATTOCK, Oct 6: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) vice-chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmad Sangi on Saturday announced that his university would establish a separate regional centre for Attock district in near future.

He was chairing a seminar at district council hall here on Saturday, which was attended by the director regional services Prof Syed Abdul Saraj, regional director AIOU Malik Touqeer Ahmed besides teachers, parents and students.

The AIOU VC said their primary objective was to achieve hundred per cent literacy rate in the country.

“Just imagine, 75 districts have  below 30 per cent literacy rate and to overcome this serious situation,  AIOU is establishing 39 modern study centers across the country,” he said.

He also claimed that more than 1.3 million students were getting education and they were the future of Pakistan. He said over  250,000 students had been enrolled in last two and half year period, while  180,000 students would be inducted in different  disciplines in the current year.

Moreover, AIUO is establishing 30 teachers resource centres throughout the country so that students of far flung areas particularly women would be facilitated regarding their educations and workshops at their own town and city level.
