Fawad, Kashif shocked: All foreigners reach squash quarter-finals
KARACHI, Oct 17: At least two players who were amongst the top four, fell prey to unseeded opponents as all foreigners made the quarter-finals in the Sixth DG Rangers Sindh international junior open squash championship at the Sindh Rangers Jahangir Khan squash complex here on Wednesday.
Sumaid Rasheed of Punjab stunned second seed Fawad Khalid of the PAF 11-4, 11-5, 9-11, 11-3 in 26 minutes to reach last eight in the boys’ under-15 category while Abdullah Bashir recovered from two games down to inflict a 7-11, 2-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-6 defeat on fourth seed Kashif Asif in an all-Punjab U-19 match that lasted 46 minutes.
Meanwhile, all the five Malaysians and a Canadian of Pakistani origin advanced in different categories of boys so did the Sri Lankan girl in the under-15 group.
Top seed Mohammad Amir Farhan bin Impandir, the lone Malaysian in the boys’ under-19 who got a first-round bye, removed Sindh’s Noman Khan 11-9, 11-7, 11-9.
Similarly, top seed Darren Chan Ti Lunn, second seed Al Nick Ally Bin Abd Rahim and third seed Kwan Ka Laap won straight against their respective opponents. However, unseeded Andrew Lee Jia Hao was stretched to limits before getting the better of seventh seed M. Farhan Ghulam 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10 in an 82-minute duel.
Canada-based Pakistani Darosham Khan took little time while recording an 11-1, 11-4, 11-0 victory over Sindh’s Naveed Rehman in the boys’ under-13.Second seed Sri Lankan Fathmous Issadeen registered an 11-0, 11-0, 11-5 victory over Sindh’s Maira Saleem to reach girls’ under-15 quarters.
