Army parts company with PKF to form own karate body
LAHORE, Nov 12: In another fallout of the tussle between the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) over the implementation of the national sports policy, Pakistan Amy has parted company with the Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) to form the Karate Federation of Pakistan along with Navy and Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
The latest parallel body in the national sporting federations, the KFP said in a press release: “A representative meeting of karate players and organisers from all the four provinces of Pakistan and from some of the services organisations affiliated with the POA was held in Lahore on Sunday in which the participants discussed the problems that were impeding the development of the sport of karate in the country.
“The participants were of the unanimous view that the Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) has failed miserably in its purpose and has become a hostage to a mere handful of individuals, led by PKF president who is manipulating the organisation for his own personal gains and consequently the Karate Federation of Pakistan has been formed.”
The KFP also named its unanimously elected office-bearers after a selection committee was formed with Col. Qaiser Mustafa nominated as its chairman.
Office-bearers: President: Mujahidullah Khan Tareen; Chairman: Kamal Shah; Vice-president (nominees): Zahid Hussain (PAF), Mahmood Naveed (Navy), Shabana Gulnaz (Women Associate); Secretary: Latif Butt (Faisalabad).
