Six parties seek ouster of Sindh election commissioner: reports

KARACHI: Six political parties have called for the dismissal of Sindh Election Commissioner Sono Khan Baloch, DawnNews reported on Tuesday.

The parties that have called for the replacement of the provincial election commissioner include the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), the Sunni Tehrik (ST), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam - Fazl (JUI-F), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam - Pakistan (JUI-P) and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N).

Accusing the provincial election commissioner of involvement in alleged irregularities in electoral rolls, the parties reportedly made the request to Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim in a letter, two local dailies reported.

On Monday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI), the JI and the ST had filed their suggestions to the Election Commission of Pakistan, Sindh, on the verification of Karachi’s electoral rolls as the deadline for filing proposals set by the Supreme Court passed yesterday.

The parties’ leaders sought immediate action by the ECP on the court’s judgment and held a meeting with the CEC and provincial chief of the body.
