Qadri says he is not interested in interim PM’s post

LAHORE, Dec 30: Retracting his earlier statement, Tehrik Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri said on Sunday he was not at all interested in becoming a caretaker prime minister.

“I don’t want this slot as Allah has given me considerable respect,” he said.

Speaking at a convention of his party’s worker here, Dr Qadri said he would not allow anyone to sabotage his one-point agenda.

At a press conference on Friday, the TMQ chief had expressed his willingness to accept the offer of caretaker premier if “his followers and the nation pressed him to do so”.

He said a grand rally of around four million people would reach Islamabad on Jan 14 in order to hold session of a ‘real parliament of the people’.

He said his party would close all doors of corruption in the country’s politics.

“On Jan 14 we will finally announce ending the corruption game being played by a few princes in this country for decades,” he said.

Later, the TMQ chief launched the fund for the long march by donating his family’s gold ornaments.

On the occasion, Dr Qadri advised the party administration not to accept donations from the TMQ’s India chapter for the long march.

Meanwhile, chief of Lahore chapter of the MQM Waseem Khokhar in a statement said a large number of party workers would actively participate in the TMQ rally to Islamabad.
