KARACHI: Former international Rizwan Ahmed hit his second century of the match as Hyderabad fought back to draw against Karachi Whites in their fourth-round Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship fixture at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The veteran right-hander, who made 105 in the first innings, struck 104 off 158 balls with the help of five sixes and as many fours after the hosts found themselves in trouble 69-3. They eventually reached safety at 277-6 mainly due to the fourth-wicket sand of 129 between Rizwan and skipper Aqeel Anjum (52).

The Whites earlier opted to bat on before declaring at 496-8 once Mohammad Sami was dismissed for 77 while leaving Fawad Alam undefeated on 153.

Sialkot, as expected, romped to a nine-wicket over Islamabad at the Gaddafi Stadium by scoring the remaining 95 runs after resuming at 114-1. Hafiz Majid Jahangir, who began on 62, finished on 112 (137 balls, 18 fours) with Faisal Khan making 68 in the unbroken stand of 148.

Rawalpindi also secured victory but they lost further three wickets in winning by two wickets against Faisalabad at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium. Resuming at 164-5 in pursuit of 235, Rawalpindi owed their success to the Pakistan Under-19 batsman Umar Waheed who came tantalising close to scoring his maiden century in just his third first-class appearance. The 18-year-old ended up scoring a patient 99 off 236 balls (14 fours).

Paceman Waqas Maqsood took 6-93 to return match figures of 11-155.

Ikhlaq Butt, a 20-year-old left-hander, scored 105 (153 balls, 14 fours) in just his second first-class match as Lahore Ravi drew with Multan at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. Set an improbable 314, the hosts made 219-5.

In the two matches which started on Monday, Quetta celebrated their first win of the championship by inflicting a massive innings and 171-run defeat on hosts Peshawar on day three at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar.

Peshawar, who were 70-4 in reply to the visitors’ 483-8 declared, crashed to 117 in the first innings with medium-pacer Gohar Faiz returning career-best 5-39.

Flowing on, the home team collected 195; the damage this time was done by all-rounder Arun Lal who bagged 5-69 with his medium-paced deliveries.

Lahore Shalimar were closing on a big win after Abbottabad stumbled to 150-6 in their chase for a mammoth 481-run target at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi. The Shalimar declared their second innings at 385-4 after beginning the third day at 251-1.
