NEW DELHI, Jan 16: India and the United States on Thursday concluded two days of talks on missile defence, officials said.

The talks focused on missile defence issues and the “security contributions that the missile defence could make”, external affairs spokesman Navtej Sarna told reporters.

The Indian delegation was led by S.K. Sharma, joint secretary for disarmament in the external affairs ministry. David Trachtenberg, principal deputy assistant secretary of defence in the State Department, led the US side.

“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue to open lines of communication on missile defence issues,” Sarna added.

The first round of missile defence talks was held in May 2001 when US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage visited India. —AFP
