Musharraf says he will return two months before polls

NEW YORK, Jan 27: Former president Pervez Musharraf has said he plans to return to Pakistan two months before the elections. But he has declined to give an exact date.

He told a group of supporters in New York on Saturday that he had delayed his return because of security concerns.

Musharraf had earlier said he would fly home to contest the elections because Pakistan’s government was sinking deeper into a major crisis, with the government squeezed by the military, judiciary and the worsening economic conditions.

The former president faces two court warrants for his arrest in connection with the 2006 death of Akbar Bugti and the 2007 assassination of ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
