Sindh duo shine in squash event
KARACHI, Feb 4: Two promising players from Sindh, a boy and a girl, made their mark by making it to the finals in their respective categories at the third Rehana Nazar national junior squash championship in Rashidabad, Tando Allahyar, on Monday.
Unseeded Hammas A. Tarar gave an enthralling performance while ousting second seed Mansoor Zaman of the famous Zaman clan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-2 to set a date with top seed Ali Karamat (PAF) who carved out a 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 victory over Sindh’s Mujtaba Raza in the other boys’ under-15 semi-final.
Similarly, Sindh’s Ayesha Zafar, the fourth seed, pulled off an upset while getting the better of second seed Monisa Nasir of Punjab 11-5, 5-11, 11-3, 11-9 to storm into the girls under-19 final where she is slated to meet top seed Amna Latif (Punjab) who routed third seed Arooma Kamran, also from Punjab, 11-5, 11-2, 8-11, 11-3.
The finals will be played on Tuesday.
