Voter list verification to continue till 16th

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday allowed its Sindh chapter five more days to complete the verification of electoral rolls in Karachi.

The provincial body, which could not complete the task by Feb 11 due to the volatile law and order in the metropolis, had sought more time to finish the job.

Officials privy to the development said the formal nod on the Sindh election commission request came from Islamabad, which extended the deadline for the job from Feb 11 to 16. They insisted that only five per cent of the work was left.

“The Sindh election commission staff lost seven working days due to a poor law and order situation in different parts of the city,” said a senior official. “But still we managed to cover most of the city districts. We are very much confident that nearly 11,000 staff members of the commission are capable of completing the job by Feb 16.”
