Bridegroom among 11 shot dead across city

KARACHI, Feb 15: Eleven people, including a bridegroom, were killed in separate incidents of violence in different parts of the city on Friday, police said.

They said that the bridegroom was shot dead and seven participants in wedding party were wounded when assailants riding motorcycles sprayed their cars with bullets in the Pak Colony area on Friday evening.

The police said that the armed men opened fire on a decorated car in which the bridegroom was travelling near Rexer Lane within the remit of the Pak Colony police station.

They said that the armed men, said to be at least four to five in number, managed to escape following the shooting.

The wounded were rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where the bridegroom, identified as Abdul Majid, 28, was pronounced dead on arrival.

Quoting family sources, the police said that he had arrived from Dubai for the wedding.

A few years back, his brother had also been killed in the Lyari area following which he had left Karachi for Dubai.

The police said that at least two of the wounded were in a serious condition.

Policeman killed in Korangi

A policeman was killed and his associate was wounded in Korangi on Friday evening.

Police said that Constables Ghulam Shabbir and Farasat were carrying out random checks near Singer Chowrangi within the remit of the Awami Colony police station. They signalled two men on a motorcycle to stop, but the latter fired at them and rode away.

As a result of the firing, Constable Shabbir died before he could be taken to hospital, while Constable Farasat was wounded and taken to the JPMC for treatment.

Two brothers shot dead

Two brothers were gunned down at their shop in Korangi where about four months ago their brother had also been shot dead, police said.

The officials said the victims hailed from Bajaur and suspected personal enmity as a possible motive for the killings.

Two armed men riding a motorcycle pulled up at a shoe shop in Mehran Town and fired at 22-year-old Sahibzada and his elder brother, Bakhtzada, 35, before fleeing, said an official of the Korangi police station.

He added that the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died before they could be rushed to hospital.

The police later shifted the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities, he said.

About four months ago, their brother, Wazirzada, had been killed at the same shop, a police investigator said.

Guard shot dead

A private security guard of a businessman was killed when armed men opened fire on their car in Korangi on Friday.

Police said the assailants fired at the car belonging to businessman Noman Turab within the jurisdiction of the Awami Colony police station. The private security guard, Imdad Hussain, who was sitting in the car suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died.

The armed men, however, managed to escape from the scene.

‘Sectarian’ killing

Earlier, a young factory worker was killed in what appeared to be a sectarian attack in Orangi Town on Friday morning, police said.

They added said that armed men riding a motorbike targeted Syed Ansar Hussain Jafri, 40, who was heading to work on his bicycle, in Baloch Goth within the remit of the Orangi Town police station.

The police said the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

After medico-legal formalities at the hospital, the body was taken to the Incholi for funeral prayers.

A senior police officer of the area said the killing seemed to bear sectarian motive, as there was no other apparent reason for the murder.

Man shot dead

A young man was shot dead within the remit of the Awami Colony police station on Friday.

Police said that armed men fired at Rehan, who was sitting outside a poultry shop. The victim died on the spot. He sustained a bullet wound in the head.

The motive for the killing was not clear, the police said.

Clash leaves one dead

A man wounded in a clash between two groups in Saudia Colony in the Khokhrapar area late Thursday night died on Friday during treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, police said.

The officials added that the victim was identified as Ibrahim.

Young man shot dead

A young man was gunned down in Korangi on Friday, police said.

They added that Mohammad Asghar, 30, was found shot dead near Korangi Darul Uloom within the remit of the Awami Colony police station.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities. Hospital sources said that the victim had been shot in the head.

The police quoted family sources as saying that the victim had left home on Thursday evening telling them that he would return late night.

The victim was an employee of a textile mill and hailed from Azad Kashmir, the police said.

Man found shot dead

The body of a youngster bearing a gunshot wound and torture marks was found in Landhi No 4 within the remit of the Sharafi Goth police station.

The victim’s identity could not be ascertained, the police said.

The body was moved to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities. The police quoted hospital sources as saying that the victim received a bullet in his head that proved fatal.

Body found

The body of an unidentified young man was found from a storm drain in Surjani Town, police said.

They added that the body bearing a gunshot wound was found from a storm drain in Sector 4-A.

The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
