Eight shot dead across city

KARACHI:Eight people were gunned down in different localities of the city on Sunday.

A young man was killed and several others were wounded in an exchange of fire between participants of a rally and some shopkeepers of the Empress Market on Sunday evening, police said.

They said that the participants of a protest rally were returning from Karachi Press Club to the Numiah area when some enraged youths opened fire on shops while passing through the Empress Market.

“Some shopkeepers snatched the official rifle of a policeman and returned fire. We have arrested the shopkeepers and recovered the weapon from their possession,” said Preedy DSP Zamir Abbasi.

As the result of the firing, Rizwan Kazmi, 30, suffered serious gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital where he died, the police said.

Some passers-by, including a woman, were also wounded in the firing, they added.

Two killed in Kharadar

Two men were gunned down in the Kharadar area on Sunday evening.

Police said that armed men riding a motorbike opened fire on two men, Abdul Rehman, 28, and Janzada, 48, who were standing close to the Mehran Bakery in Faria Street, Kharadar and sped away.

They said that the assailants continued firing while fleeing and two more men, identified as Raju and Zia, sustained bullet wounds.

All the wounded were rushed to the Civil Hospital, where Rehman and Janzada died during treatment.

Following the shooting, tension gripped the old city area where shops and markets were shut by the shopkeepers.

The police were immediately not sure about the motive for the killing.

Three bodies found in Lyari

Bodies of two young men, who had been kidnapped on Saturday evening, were found in Lyari on Sunday morning, police said.

They said that the bodies, stuffed in gunny bags, were found on Mahabat Khan Road at a narrow street within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

The bodies bore torture marks and they had been shot in the head. The police shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital, where they were identified as Mohammad Hussain, 18 and Sameer, 20. They were residents of Shah Waliullah Road.

They were kidnapped and later killed at some unknown place.Meanwhile, the trussed-up body of an unidentified young man was found in the Mauripur area on Sunday, police said.

They said that the body, packed in a gunny bag, was found near Ghulam-e-Abbas School within the remit of the Kalri police station.

They said that the victim had been shot in the head.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Young man killed in ‘sectarian’ attack

A young man was gunned down in the Paposh Nagar area in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said assailants riding a motorcycle fired at Syed Hasan Naqvi, 25, who was also on a bike, near Khilafat Chowk and rode away.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said that the victim was a resident of Chandni Chowk, Nazimabad and was a salesman at a private company. It appeared that he was killed due to sectarian reasons, they added.

Man found shot dead

The body of an unidentified young man was found in a storm-water drain near the TFC School in the Saudabad area on Sunday. Police said that the victim had been shot in the head.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Body found

The body of an unidentified man was found in Korangi area within the remit of the Zaman Town police station on Sunday morning.

Police said that the victim had been shot and then killers dumped the body at a desolate plan in Korangi.

The body was moved to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
