RAWALPINDI, Nov 25: Commotion is likely to mar the proceedings of the Rawalpindi Tehsil Assembly when it meets for its fourth session on Monday.

The proceedings will start at 10am at the Liaquat Memorial Hall.

The assembly members are divided over the constitution of various monitoring committees. About 19 committees were formed in the previous session with the approval of the House which later elected the respective chairpersons. The committees will supervise the work of various departments of the tehsil.

But, the Tehsil Nazim, Raja Hamid Nawaz, was not happy with the selection of the chairpersons, and had been pressurizing members to resign, the assembly members told Dawn.

Apart from this, there are a number of issues which are likely to mar the proceedings of the House.

These include non-availability of offices for the Naib Nazims and councillors. The councillors complain that they have neither been provided offices nor any funds to do works in their respective constituencies.

“The people demand many things from us such as pavement for streets, construction of drainage and cleanliness, but, we have nothing in our hands. We do not know how to face the people who voted us to power”, an assembly member said.

Another issue that is likely to come up during the proceedings is concerned with the tehsil municipal officer, Col Najamul Hassan Malik.

Mr Malik’s contract expires on Monday and the assembly members insist that it should not be extended. They claim that he was not behaving properly with the elected representatives.

“We want to do a lot of things for the people who voted us to power, but, the TMO is not cooperating. His attitude is dictating. We will move a resolution against him if his contract is extended”, a minority member, Nadia Javed, said.

The assembly members are likely to press for their demands which, they say, have so far not been paid any heed.
