People suffer as road, air links to Skardu suspended

SKARDU, Feb 27:  Hundreds of students, passengers and patients have been stuck in Skardu and Islamabad due to cancellation of PIA flights for the last ten days and suspension of vehicular traffic on the Karakoram Highway on account of repair of three bridges between Dubair and Dassu points.

According to reports, the passengers stranded at Islamabad have been facing hardships. Due to suspension of traffic on the Karakoram Highway shortage of petroleum products and other commodities like LPG gas and edible items have been feared in days to come in Skardu.

Sources said PIA flights to GB were subject to weather conditions, adding flights had to be cancelled because of the continuous inclement weather for last ten days. People of Baltistan have been demanding of the government to install latest landing gadgets at the Skardu airport but because of the apathy of the federal and GB governments this demand has not yet been fulfilled.—Correspondent
