Karachi police claim arrest of TTP, LEJ militants

KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed the arrest of three militants belonging to the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi from Karachi's Kunwari colony area, DawnNews reported.

The counterterrorism cell of the Crime Investigation Department (CID)conduced the raid Orangi town's Kunwari colony area.

One of the arrested suspects belonged to the TTP whereas two others were associated with the LEJ,according to police officials who claimed that weapons and explosives were also recovered from the suspected militants.

According to the police, the explosive material was transferred through to the area, using a rickshaw.

DSP Asghar Usman said that the arrested suspects were associated with the Waseem Bardi group, who followed instructions from Hakimullah Mehsud.

He added that militants had 13-14 associates involved in terrorist activities in the city.

Police sources claimed that the militants accepted responsibility of the targeted killings of Nayer Zaidi and Agha Aftab Haider Jaffery.
