Alba doubtful for PSG clash

MADRID, March 24: Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba could miss his side’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg with Paris Saint-Germain on April 2, the club confirmed on Sunday.

The 24-year-old suffered a hamstring strain in Spain’s 1-1 draw with Finland on Friday night and has definitely been ruled out of the World champions’ clash with France on Tuesday, but should only be sidelined for a maximum of 10 days.

“Jordi Alba will be out for seven to ten days,” said a statement on the club’s website. “The tests carried out by the medical services of FC Barcelona confirmed that the full-back has a strain of the hamstring in his right leg.

“Therefore, should he complete this period, Alba will miss the meeting with France on Tuesday and his presence is doubtful for the games against Celta Vigo and Paris Saint-Germain.”

Barca visit Celta in the league on March 30 and then travel to play PSG in the Champions League on April 2.

Barca’s defensive resources have already been stretched in recent weeks by the loss of Adriano Correia and Carles Puyol to injury.—AFP
