Prohibited items found at Multan jail

LAHORE, March 27: Jail authorities claim to have seized cash, cell phones and other prohibited items during a surprise search operation at the Multan Central Jail on Wednesday.

However, officials had found no such items during a similar operation at the DG Khan Central Jail a few days ago.

According to a press release, DIG Headquarters Mian Salik Jalal with the help of 100 commandoes and officers from Lahore had conducted a surprise operation early morning on March 24 and recovered Rs19,066, 15 cell phones, two SIM cards, glass, wires, pieces of plastic rope and cutters from barracks and cells.

The assistant jail superintendent and other officials, who were in charge at the time, had been suspended from service while the Home Department had been conveyed about action against the jail superintendent and deputy superintendent.

The same team had conducted a search at DG Khan Central Jail on March 25, but did not find any prohibited items.

The statement read jail authorities would continue search operations across the province until elimination of entry of cell phones into jails.

MEDICAL CAMP: A free medical camp was set up at Kot Lakhpat Jail from 9am to 3pm.

According to Jail Superintendent Mohsin Rafique, 20 doctors examined over 300 prisoners having eye, skin and dental diseases.
