Bad weather ‘lands’ Musharraf in Lahore

LAHORE, April 1: Former president Gen Pervaiz Musharraf (retired) had to wait at the old airport here for about three hours on Monday as his Islamabad-bound chartered plane had to be diverted to Lahore owing to inclement weather.

According to a Civil Aviation Authority official, Musharraf’s chartered plane that took off from Karachi had to land in Lahore en route Islamabad due to inclement weather at 5.40pm.

Musharraf had to wait for about three hours in the lounge of the old airport.

Meanwhile, worker of his All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) on knowing about the presence of their leader in the city reached the new airport and chanted slogans in favour of the former president. They also demanded he should address them.

However, the APML workers later dispersed after learning that Musharraf could not come out of the airport building because of security concerns.

As Musharraf was informed his chartered plane could not fly in the rough weather, he left for Islamabad by a PIA flight at 8.30pm.
