HYDERABAD, April 11: A plain reading of assets — filed by some high-profile candidates — reveals interesting details for voters. These candidates are contesting for Hyderabad district’s different national and provincial assembly seats. Candidates whose details of assets are obtained included former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan leader and former MNA Sahibzada Abdul Khair Zubair, Muttahida Qaumi Movement deputy convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Qaumi Awami Tehreek president Ayaz Latif Palijo and former PPP Sindh minister Zahid Ali Bhurgari.

Sharjeel Memon, a civil engineer, has come up with his total assets worth Rs66,637,599. His tax-related details show that he paid Rs1,536,920 tax in 2012, Rs880,687 in 2011 and Rs401,015 in 2010. His agriculture-related income in 2012 was Rs25,000,000 with Rs3,617,500 paid income tax, Rs21,000,000 in 2011 with Rs3,095,500 paid income tax. He earned nothing in 2010 through agriculture and thus paid no tax. His assets as on June 30 of the current financial year are worth Rs26,540,446 and as against Rs8,957,889 in the previous financial year showing an increase of Rs17,582,559.

A 500 sq.yds plot in Khayaban-i-Shamsheer phase-V worth Rs44,00,000, 1000 sq.yds plot in Khayaban-i-Mujahid in phase-V worth Rs9,700,000 and a 120 sq.yds plot of MDA worth Rs120,000 are among his immovable property. He has booked two flats in Dubai worth Rs5,000,000.

Movable assets (business capital) within Pakistan worth Rs1500,000 are Marvi Property Network owned by Sharjeel Memon. His business capital outside Pakistan in International Gulf Companies worth Rs3000,000 and al-Awael Real Estate worth Rs1000,000 in Dubai.

He has a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser worth Rs3,150,000 besides 150 tola jewellery worth Rs34,068,042. Furniture, fittings and articles of personal use are estimated at Rs2,000,000. The value of his total assets in response to queries numbers 4+14 comes to Rs66,637,599. Liabilities are of Rs40,097,151 and personal expenditure Rs5,200,000.He owns 20 acres in Tharparkar while his spouse has 45 per cent share in some Dubai business called IGG. He got loans against two plots of Defence Housing Authority and the Land Cruiser. The value of his assets on June 30, 2013, stood at Rs8,957,889 and on June 30, 2012 at Rs3,780,968.

JUP president Sahibzada Abul Khair Zubair – who was elected as MNA in 2002 elections from the platform of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal – has shown total assets of Rs55,396,223. In the last three years, he claims, he has paid no income tax because his income is not taxable. His source of earning is his job as the principal of Rukunul Islam Oriental College, Hirabad, Hyderabad. He did not pay any tax on agriculture income in the last three years as he did not show any agricultural land.

His immovable assets in Pakistan are a house (A/656 North, Block-N North Nazimabad, Karachi) worth Rs25,500,000, land of 10 kanals and two marlas in Kasur worth Rs550000, four kanals in Kasur worth Rs30,000, office in Al-Rahim shopping centre worth Rs360,000.

He neither owns anything abroad nor has investment anywhere. He owns a Corolla worth Rs1 million, 24 tolas of jewellery (of wife) worth Rs1400000, cash in hand Rs100,000 and in bank (current) Rs667,220 and Rs464,003 (savings). Furniture, fittings and articles of personal use are of Rs25,000. His Azad Maida Hirabad property’s value is Rs25,30,0000. His net assets are calculated at Rs55,396,223.

Ayaz Latif Palijo’s total assets on June 30 of the current financial year are calculated at Rs7,600,000 and they remain unchanged on June 30 of the last financial year. He is a lawyer by profession which is his source of income.

His total income is Rs456,400 in 2012, Rs444,100 in 2011 and Rs399,025 in 2010. He paid income tax of Rs4,450, Rs4,600 and Rs4,000 respectively in these years.

He has 14 acres of agriculture land, but his agriculture income tax is ‘nil’ in these years. Worth of his immovable property in Pakistan is Rs2,700,000. He owns plots, flats etc (total 22 in number) worth Rs2,500,000. He owns nothing abroad and has shares in PPL worth Rs100,000. He has 11 tolas of jewellery worth Rs6,600,000 and cash of Rs150,000 and in bank Rs400,000. His personal expenses are Rs200,000 and total expenses are Rs1,300,000.

He travelled to the USA, Bangladesh, UK and other countries and all expenses, including airfares, were borne by the hosts.

MQM’s deputy convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has net assets of Rs1,700,000. He has rented a house in Federal B Area (315/8) for Rs8,000 monthly. He neither has movable assets nor has agricultural lands. He has 10 tolas gold (of dowry) worth Rs800,000.

His personal cash is Rs700,000 and furniture, fitting and articles of personal use are of Rs200,000 (of wife). He does not own a car. He travelled to Pakistan from the USA with his wife, incurring expenses of Rs500,000 approximately.

Ex-Sindh minister and Hyderabad district PPP president Zahid Ali Bhurgari is an agriculturist/businessman. His earning (salary) in 2010 is Rs1,187,864. The earning in 2011 was Rs9,360,000 and in 2012 it was Rs1,530,000.

He paid an income tax of Rs67,700, Rs71,500 and Rs150,480, respectively, in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2010, he earned Rs150,000 out of 24-33 acres agriculture land and paid Rs3,500 agriculture income tax, in 2011 he earned Rs170,000 from the same land and paid Rs4,500 tax and earned Rs175,000 in 2012 and paid Rs4,750 tax. His net assets on June 30 of the current financial year have worth of Rs4,301,363 and on June 30 of the last financial year Rs3,538,363.

Cost of his immovable property in Pakistan is Rs1,238,000. Movable assets in Pakistan (Al-Mustafa Arcade, a commercial venture in the Cantonment area) worth Rs1,820,000. He has 50 tolas of jewellery (of wife) worth Rs1,000,000. Cash in bank is Rs5,990,691. Furniture, fittings and articles of personal use worth Rs100,000. His personal expenditure is Rs780,000 and he has weapons worth Rs100,000.
