KOHAT: 10 cops, ex-MPA injured in accident

KOHAT, Feb 15: Eleven people, 10 policemen and a former MPA, accused of harbouring proclaimed offenders, were injured seriously when a police mobile van bound for Pesha-war from Bannu burst its tyre and overturned near Muslimabad here on Satur-day.

A former member of provincial assembly, Alamgir Khan, was under going treatment in the Saddar police lockup amid tight security.

Two others, Rehan Nawaz and Mir Ajam, were also under temporary custody of Kohat police.

The vehicle was one of the three which were carrying three notorious criminals arrested during an operation clean up in Bannu district a fortnight ago to Peshawar for interrogation.

When it reached Muslimabad, one of its tyre burst after which it took several somersaults, the injured told local police.

The condition of five of the injured policemen was stated to be serious whereas other victims had been discharged from hospital after first aid.

The accused lodged in police lockups would be transported to Peshawar for interrogation by the CID after recovering from injuries, a police spokesman informed Dawn.

The names of the injured policemen, who were still in the hospital, are Haider Ali Shah, Tariq, Hazrat Ali, Naeem Khan and Ehsan Khan.

The rescue operation was carried out by local police and members of Khidmat-i-Khalq committee who pulled out the injured from the pick up and brought them to hospital for treatment.
