SANGHAR: Girl’s death by falling in manhole stirs protest
SANGHAR, Feb 20: Dozens of angry people took to streets here on Thursday to protest against the death of a minor girl after falling in an open manhole in Shahan Shah colony.
The body of the deceased, Samina, 3, daughter of Master Sultan, was retrieved after hectic efforts by the people.
The agitated people, carrying the body, marched through several roads and gathered at Bachu Badshah Chowk where they burnt tyres and raised slogans against the local body representatives.
As a result, traffic to Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad was disturbed.
The protesters demanded registration of a murder case against the responsible local body representative.
They became more irritated when the local SHO arrived on the scene and tried to disperse the agitators rudely, saying that the deceased would not become alive by burning tyres.
The protesters dispersed when DSP Iqbal Qadri arrived on the spot and promised that the police would register an FIR according to the statements of the heirs of the deceased.
