SIALKOT, Feb 24: Updating information about the location of export consignments in transit, the Sialkot dryport management has launched ‘online tracking system.’

Dryport General-Manager Saleem Ahmad Sheikh said on Monday the local dryport had taken a good step to facilitate its customers. He said now the businessmen could know the exact location of their consignments in transit and idea of their arrival by inserting their container or shipping bill number.

It would also facilitate businessmen in managing time of processing their consignments, he added.

Chairing the annual prize distribution ceremony at the Government Tableegh-i-Islam High School, he said promotion of quality technical education figured high on the government’s agenda.

He said the district government had completed 235 development projects of constructing class rooms, boundary walls and toilets in various schools with an expenditure of Rs28.4 million in the past year and half. Eight schools were upgraded at a cost of Rs20 million, he said.

He said the government would also set up higher secondary schools for girls at a every 1,500 metres and provide furniture to various schools.

IMPRISONMENT: Pasrur tehsil’s Senior Civil Judge Abdul Rahman Awan on Monday handed down two-year rigorous imprisonment and Rs30,000 fine each to seven convicts, including Malipur union council Nazim.

According to the prosecution, the convicts, including Nazim Khalid Mehmood, tortured a farmer, Muhammad Ramzan, and his son Shahbaz over a petty dispute in 1996. They also stopped the Pasrur police from registering a case.

Meanwhile, the convicted Nazim has announced that he would move the Lahore High Court against this verdict.
