RAWALPINDI: Residents for proper drainage system
RAWALPINDI, March 1: Poor sewerage system of the cantonment and city areas was in a shambles due to intermittent rains on Saturday, causing inconvenience to the people.
Most of the drains were choked. The streets in the low-lying and congested areas were submerged, making it difficult for the people to walk through. Even the main Murree Road has no proper drainage system, and water can be seen accumulated on the road.
The areas in the city which were affected due to the rains are Muslim Town, Sadiqabad, Kurri Road, Dhoke Ali Akbar, Afandi Colony, Javed Colony, Nadeem Colony, Amarpura, Mohanpura, Ferozpura, Haripura, Pindora, Banni and Satellite Town.
Similarly, in the cantonment jurisdiction, only the areas inhabited by the army people have a good drainage and cleanliness system. Whereas, the civilian-populated areas have no proper sewerage system. All drains are overflowing and streets and roads are inundated.
On the Chaklala side, no attention is paid to the sewerage system of the poor localities. The most affected areas are Mareer Hassan, Janda Chichi, Chamanzar Colony, Adiala Road, Allama Iqbal Colony, Gulistan Colony, Chakra Village, Dhoke Charaghdin and Sir Syed Road.
The same is the case with the cantonment. The overcrowded areas like Tench Bhatta, Chungi-22, Azizabad, Mughalabad, Misrial Road, Dhoke Chaudhrian, Siham, Mohallah Zamindaran, some parts of Chuhr Harpal, Dhoke Syedan, Dhoke Gujaran, Dhoke Mustaqeem and Allahabad have no proper drainage system.
When it rains, there is mud all around and rain water everywhere, the residents said.
They demanded of the municipal authorities of both the Tehsil and the cantonments to build a proper drainage system.
Numerous taxes are collected from us under different heads, but no civic facilities are provided in return, they added.
