PML-N MNA disqualified

LAHORE, June 21 An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Monday held Pakistan Muslim League-N MNA Mudassar Qayyum Nahra ineligible for contesting the 2008 election as he possessed a fake degree.

The tribunal comprising Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh directed the Election Commission to hold fresh election for the NA-100 (Gujranwala) seat within 60 days.

The order said the MNA did not qualify under provisions of Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution because he turned out to be a 'dishonest person'.

The judge said it had been established that the Punjab University had put a three-year ban on the respondent for using unfair means in examinations.

But he enrolled himself at the Islamia University Bahawalpur and passed BA examination.

The MNA neither got a no-objection certificate from the Punjab University nor challenged the ban at any legal forum. He concealed facts and provided wrong information in the admission form of the Islamia University.—Staff Reporter
