LARKANA: Lawyers reject LFO

LARKANA, March 9: Members of the High Court Bar and the District Bar Associations observed an-hour-long token strike on Saturday to express solidarity with the lawyers’ community of Pakistan.

The call for protest was extended jointly by the Pakistan Bar Council, Supreme Court Bar Association and the Sindh Bar Council.

Rejecting the Legal Framework Order, the joint meeting of both the Bar associations, refused to accept it as part of the Constitution.

It held that Gen Parvez Musharraf had no legal authority to mutilate the Constitution, enact sweeping amendments and take refuge under the Supreme Court’s judgment of May 12, 2000, authorizing him to amend the Constitution during the transitory period of three years.

Criticizing the Jamali government, the Bar associations demanded of the government to get the LFO ratified by the National Assembly following the rational course provided by the Constitution and avoid creating a constitutional crisis.
