Musharraf`s lectures: why be jealous?

THIS is with reference to the letter, '?' (Sept 15).

The writer, Shams Z. Abbas, has wrongly accused some Pakistanis of being jealous of Mr. Musharraf's high earnings through lectures.

I want to clarify here that I am just a teenager and am only writing because misconceptions such as these tend to upset me.

The author needs to realise that yes there is still a lot that needs to be said about these so-called, self-proclaimed Pakistan-loving people.

He needs to realise that the high fees, which were once only paid to Bill Clinton, are nothing but a reward being given to Musharraf for his continued support to the American government.

People call him a dictator but he was nothing but an American supporter. The Americans always reward people like Musharraf in different ways, while the unfortunate ones who question the American authority, such as Z.A. Bhutto, usually end up either tried or murdered.

Mr Abbas has also mentioned that Musharraf will be lecturing to American think-tanks and meeting American politicians.

May I ask him, why? Doesn't Musharraf know a little too much about this country to go and lecture? Why doesn't he give lectures here in Pakistan, so that the people of Pakistan get to know the actual facts rather than the Americans?

I am sure that the people of Pakistan would love to get enlightened about the precarious phase that Pakistan has been going through all these years.

In my opinion, this whole lecturing business is a shady attempt to get support for the American war on terrorism for which the support is constantly declining in the West.

The writer has gone as far as reminding the readers that only Benazir Bhutto has had the honour of lecturing at such venues in the past.

I would request the writer not to compare the two, because Musharraf is still very far behind from joining the league of wonderful and dignified people such as Ms Bhutto herself.
