Walk held for enrolment in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD, April 17 An 'enrolment walk' was held from the government high school to the Hyderabad press club on Saturday.
A large number of citizens, officials of the education department, teachers and students of public and private schools and representatives of the NCHD participated in the walk held by the education department of Hyderabad with the cooperation of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD).
Speaking on the occasion, DO (elementary) Ms Farasat Shah said that the education department had started a campaign for the enrolment of students in schools and expressed the hope that this year's enrolment would surpass the number of children last year.
DO (literacy) Ghulam Mustafa Saand said that a comprehensive and coordinated programme had been prepared to ensure maximum enrolment of students.
District programme manager of the NCHD Bahadur Bhurgari said that all efforts should be made to ensure enrolment of students of five to seven years of age.
He said that a team of his organisation was going door to door to motivate parents to get their children enrolled in schools.
GROWERS Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has blamed inefficiency on part of the government for gunny bags crisis and demanded that the bags should be made available at all procurement centres.
The leaders of the chamber who met here on Friday observed that the poor growers who had not been supplied gunny bags were forced to sell their produce at Rs800 per 40 kg, Rs150 less than the government fixed rates of Rs950 per 40 kg.
The meeting pointed out that the growers of upper Sindh were the worst hit.
Meanwhile, the district food controller of Hyderabad has strongly rejected reports that gunny bags were not being supplied to growers of Hala and adjoining areas through the procurement centres.
He said in a statement issued here on Friday said that bags were being issued to the growers in accordance with a policy to eliminate role of middlemen and accused unscrupulous profiteers of launching a campaign to malign the food department.
