Sahiwal seeks 80 tons of sugar
SAHIWAL, Oct 24 About 60 to 80 metric ton more sugar is needed per day to bridge the gap between demand and supply here in the district, says an official who is associated with the monitoring of sugar supply.
Presently, 120 metric ton sugar is being supplied to the district under the prescribed quota on a daily basis, but the demand is about 200 metric ton.
Shopkeepers have blamed the dealers for sugar hoarding. This correspondent visited various localities and found sugar absent from shops.
District Monitoring Officer Shafiq Dogar says the situation will improve by Sunday.
District Food Controller Mr Mubarak says he is not responsible for bridging the gap between demand and supply.
Karyana merchants' representative Sheikh Yaqoob says the gap between demand and supply will not improve until the sugar quota for the district is increased.
