DADU Panic gripped people living in 14 Union Councils of Johi, Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas with the announcement of the district administration of Dadu to immediately shift to safe places. The villagers are waiting at their homes without any transport facility which should have been arranged by the district administration. The warning by the district administration, announced through loud speakers and megaphones, warned the people to shift amid impending flood threat moving towards these villages from Qambar-Shahdadkot.
The DCO of Dadu, Mohammad Iqbal Memon, along with revenue officers, visited seven union councils, including Kamal Khan, Bahawalpur, Phulji village, Chhini, Qambar Chhore, Gozo and Faridabad and warned the people to immediately shift with their cattle heads and domestic belongings.
EDO Revenue Syed Ghazanfar Shah told journalists that they had delivered messages to residents of seven union councils to shift to safe places. He said that floodwater would hit 300 small and large villages of 14 union councils. He said that revenue staff would visit seven more union councils on Wednesday and warn people against impending flood threat.
The state minister for food and agriculture, Rafique Ahmed Jamali, told journalists that water coming from Hamal Lake would inundate parts of Johi, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Mehar and arrangements had been made to provide facilities to the displaced people.” He said that Dadu city was safe and secure and there was no threat from water that would come from Hamal Lake.
Meanwhile, most of the residents of Khairpur Nathan Shah, Johi and Mehar talukas are shifting to safe places on their own as no proper transport had been provided to them as yet.
MNA Dr Talat Mahessar said that floodwater had been released into MNV Drain from Hamal Lake but the drain was in a normal position. He said that he had visited the lake and saw its level was rising.
SURVEY The district administration of Dadu has finalised a survey of losses which might be caused by water pouring out of Hamal Lake.
According to this survey, 278,460 people of 401 villages in the district would be affected. The survey conducted by revenue department under the supervision of DCO said that nine out of 10 union councils of taluka Johi -- including Tore, Pat Gul Mohammad, Phulji, Chhinni, Tando Rahim, Drigh Bala, Bahawalpur and Kamal Khan - and areas of Khan Jo Goth, Fareedabad, and Mangwani in Mehar taluka and Chore Qambar, Gozo, Kakar, Buriro, Mitho Babar and Kando Chhukhi areas of Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka would be affected by the onslaught of the deluge moving from Shahdadkot.
