HANGU: College fails to start degree classes

HANGU, Dec 3: Millions of rupees spent on Government Girls Degree College for Girls in Hangu appear to be going down the drain as the education department fails to commence classes months after its construction.

Locals said that degree classes could not commence due to apathy on part of the education department which had failed to build a boarding house for girls. The situation, they said, had led many a girl students to end their education at higher secondary level.

They said that the college building had been completed at the cost of millions of rupees but it remained vacant and unused.

The district Naib Nazim Bismillah Khan and Brig Ghazanfar Ali visited the building on public complaints and discovered that non availability of boarding facility for female students was the main problem as parents were unwilling to let their girls come to college as day scholars.

The other problem, they noticed, was the absence of housing facility for the female staff members.

Locals have demanded of the provincial government to look into the matter and take remedial steps to save the future of hundreds of female students who are keen on pursuing higher education.
