HYDERABAD, April 30 Students of the Government Technical College boycotted classes and held a sit-in at the college's gate under the aegis of Jeay Sindh Students Federation in protest against proposed privatisation of 180 technical and vocational colleges and technical training centres.

The federation leaders Suryah Sindhi, Hussain Qambrani and Kashif Bhutto warned that students would not allow privatisation of any technical college or centre.

They said that higher education had already become an exclusive preserve of the rich and if the government did away with technical institutions, the poor students would be deprived of their right to education.

They said that if anyone came to take over possession of the college, students would not allow them to enter its premises.

CLASH Three students suffered injuries in a clash over a petty issue between two groups of students of the Faculty of Information Technology of the Sindh Agriculture University on Thursday.

Reports said that the students used sticks and clip boards in the clash. The injured were identified as Asad and Mahesh. The name of the third student could not be ascertained.

A heavy contingent of police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies rushed to the university and controlled the situation.

Police force has been deployed at the hostels and other important places in the campus.

LUMHS SENATE Prof Dr Abdus Sattar Memon, dean of Faculty of Surgery and Allied Sciences and Prof Dr Mohammad Shahzad Leghari, chairman of the Department of Urology have been elected members of the syndicate of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences here on Thursday, according to a notification.
