HYDERABAD: Tribute paid to singer

HYDERABAD, Feb 25 Tribute was paid to the late vocalist Mohammad Yousuf for his services in the field of music at a memorial function held at the Sindhi Language Authority under the aegis of Sindh culture and tourism department on Tuesday night.

Speaking on the occasion, writer Hameed Sindhi said that Mohammad Yousuf was the king of Raagas and he was the first singer who was given Latif award. He said so far no artist has come anywhere near Mohammad Yousuf in the field of music.

The chairman of Sindhi Language Authority, Dr Fehmida Hussain, said that music played a very important role in the promotion of Sindhi language and added that artistes like Mohammad Yousuf had made the Sindhi language immortal. No one can ever forget the sweet voice of Yousuf, she said.

The Director Culture Department, Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi, said that the department had not forgotten the great artiste and assured on behalf of the culture and tourism minister Sassui Palijo, that the family of the late musician would be given a financial help of Rs500,000 and wife of the great artist will be provided free medical treatment for her eye ailment.

He said a book would also be published on the life and achievements of the artiste.
