DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Dera women councillors protest girl`s flogging

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, April 6 The Women Councillors Network held a protest rally here on Monday against the flogging of a girl in Swat and said the ANP-led provincial government should resignation because it has failed to establish its writ in the province.

The councillors, carrying placards and banners, staged the protest in front of the local press club. They were led by organisation's provincial president Farhat Sadiqui and district chief Dilshad Begum.

The protesters chanted anti-government slogans, saying it had failed to protect the lives and properties of people. They observed that the ANP-led government in the Frontier province was helpless to protect the honour of women, pointing to the public flogging of a girl in Swat by militants.

They called upon the federal government to take notice of the incident, saying the perpetrators should be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment.
