Multan to host international football tournament

ISLAMABAD 'Oldest Living City Cup' international football tournament involving teams from Italy, Brazil, South Korea, Argentine, Mexico and Poland will be held next year in Multan.

 

A committee which reviewed the proposal of the international football event met on Monday under the chairmanship of acting secretary sports Mohammad Anwar Khan.

 

The proposal for the event was forwarded by Italian-Pak Chamber of Commerce & Industry- Islamabad.

According to a press release issued by Pakistan Sports Board, Anwar Khan asked the secretary sports -Government of Punjab, to submit feasibility report regarding repair and renovation of the existing Qasim Bagh Football Stadium-Multan.

The committee decided that Ministry of Sports will prepare PC-I accordingly and executing agency will be the Government of Punjab.

Efforts will be made to provide the play-ground, changing room and other technical facilities at par with international standard and specifications at the earliest.

The estimated expenditure of the tournament would be 330,000 Euro.

It was also decided in the committee meeting that all stakeholders will try to receive maximum sponsorship from the private sector.

This tournament will provide an opportunity to portray a positive image of Pakistan in the world.

The meeting was attended by Secretary General Pakistan Football Federation, D.G. Pakistan Sports Board, District Nazim, Multan, President, Italian-Pak Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Islamabad, Secretary Sports- Government of Punjab and Senior Officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Sports.
