Musharraf must be tried, says Sana

MULTAN, Sept 6 Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that former president General Pervez Musharraf (retired) was a national offender and his party (PML-N) will not retreat from its demand that the retired general should stand trial for his offences.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Sanaullah said that the whole nation was demanding the trial of the dictator who had violated the Constitution and the law. He said the PML-N always raised the voice for the masses and would take all steps demanded by the masses.

He said that some opportunists were involved in political mudslinging by playing Brigadier Imtiaz (retired) card but the character of the Sharif brothers was clean and the opportunists would fail in their designs.

He said that a list of nominees for the appointment of judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC) had been forwarded to the president for approval and he would take final decision.

He said the Punjab government would ensure the implementation of the LHC's verdict to fix the ex-mill price of sugar at Rs36 per kg and retail price at Rs40 per kg while a committee had also been formed to negotiate with sugar mills owners.

The minister said the Punjab government was taking practical steps to provide relief to the masses and for this purpose all available sources were being utilised.

He said that all public departments including the police would be purged of corruption and swift action would be taken on any such complaint.

He said the Punjab government had won hearts and minds of the masses by arranging Ramazan bazaars to provide quality food items on cheap rates.
