Musharraf invites PPP for talks
ISLAMABAD, April 11: President Pervez Musharraf has extended an “indirect invitation” to the People’s Party Parliamentarians to discuss the Legal Framework Order and other related issues, sources in the PPP told Dawn on Friday.
They said PPP parliamentary leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim has so far taken no decision in this respect. The sources said two senior army officials met Mr Fahim in Islamabad at about 2:30pm after his arrival from Lahore and extended the invitation for a meeting with President Musharraf.
Mr Fahim had reportedly asked the two officials to invite PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto for talks instead of other leaders of the party.
He also offered his services to act as a bridge between the PPP chairperson and the president, the PPP sources said.
The sources said the president’s invitation would be discussed by the PPP leaders at a meeting to be held in Bilawal House on Saturday.
The PPP parliamentary leader is likely to discuss the president’s invitation with Benazir Bhutto and will give party’s reply to the president on April 13, the sources said.
President Musharraf had recently met different leaders of the PML-Q-led coalition government and discussed the LFO as well as his decision to hold the charge of the COAS.
