Lawyers hit out at Musharraf`s Nov 3 act
GUJRANWALA, Nov 3 Lawyers observed a black day across Punjab on Tuesday to condemn the imposition of emergency by former military dictator Pervez Musharraf on Nov 3, 2007.
In Gujranwala, the district bar association observed black day and took out a rally to protest Musharraf's act. The lawyers said Musharraf should be brought back through Interpol and tried.
The lawyers led by bar president Rana Amir Afzal gathered in the bar room and hoisted black flags on the bar office. Later, they took out a rally led by bar general secretary Sarfraz Ahmad.
They raised slogans against the former president and demanded that he should be tried for 'high treason'. They said they would continue their movement till Musharraf's trial.
In Bahawalpur, lawyers and journalists observed black day against the Nov 3, 2007 emergency and curbs on the media.
The Bahawalpur Union of Journalist held a protest meeting where journalists vowed to continue their struggle for the independent media. Journalists Ameen Abbasi and Majeed Gill spoke on the occasion.
Also, lawyers of district and high court bar associations boycotted courts and hoisted black flags at their offices. In Okara, lawyers observed a complete strike against the declaration of emergency by Musharraf.
Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib district bars and Ferozewala and Sangla Hill tehsil bars observed complete strikes on Tuesday.
The lawyers held meetings and condemned Musharraf's act. Bar president Ashraf Kamboh spoke on the occasion.
