IDPs registration, relief distribution suspended in Kohat
KOHAT, April 20 A meeting held here on Tuesday under the Kohat division commissioner decided to immediately suspended registration of internally displaced people and distribution of relief goods for an indefinite period.
The participants discussed the security situation in the aftermath of the spate of suicide blasts in Kohat and agreed to suspend the registration process and distribution of food among the displaced people till a foolproof strategy is devised for their safety and improvement of general law and order in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Kohat commissioner Khalid Khan Umerzai said security situation in the region needed to be reassessed. He stressed enhanced cooperation between intelligence agencies and law-enforcement agencies to eliminate militancy, saying team work was essential to fighting the increasing terrorism.
The meeting was attended by the regional head of Military Intelligence, Colonel Shahid, Lt-Col Amjid Ali Shah, Lt-Col Adnan, regional chief of Intelligence Bureau, Anwar Khan Masood, deputy inspector general of police, Kohat region, Abdullah Khan, SSP (investigation), Attiqullah Wazir, district coordination officers of Kohat, Hangu and Karak, Kifayatullah, Syed Musaddiq Shah and Mohammad Ajmal Khan, respectively, district police officers of Kohat and Hangu, assistant coordination officers of Kohat and Hangu, and social welfare officers of Kohat and Hangu, Shazia Khattak and Jaffar Khan, respectively.
Meanwhile, authorities have sent the preliminary investigation report of the three suicide blasts to the federal and provincial governments.
It was learnt that SSP (investigation) Attiqullah Wazir prepared the report, which also details the losses suffered by the people and the government and the death toll in the three blasts for distribution of compensation among the victims.
DIG Abdullah Khan and DPO Dilawar Khan Bangash also visited the two blast sites along with the investigation teams to assess the damages.
