Gilgit revenue official killed in ambush
GILGIT, March 29 A revenue department official (naib tehsildar) was killed on Monday in the suburbs of Gilgit town when the car he was traveling in was ambushed. Two others were wounded in the attack, police said.
DSP City Tanvir Ahmed said deceased Akbar Hussain was heading towards Gilgit city from his village along with his brother Samad Khan and a nephew when his car was hit by unidentified assailants. He received bullets in the head and died on the spot while the other inmates were injured and taken to DHQ hospital. The doctors said both the injured were in stable condition and out of danger. The official said the funeral of Akbar Hussain took place in his native village of Shoti.
Meanwhile, another police official said police parties were following footsteps of the culprits and soon they would be nabbed.
HEAVY RAIN Gilgit-Baltistan received heavy rain on Monday and the met office forecast more rains during next 24 hours. The shower brought the mercury down causing chill in the weather and improving the flow at rivers.
KKH REOPENED The Karakuram Highway that was blocked at Paidan Das Jaglote, some 65kms east of Gilgit due to partial damage to a bridge, was restored after temporary arrangements, an official of the Northern Area Transport Corporation informed. —Correspondent
