Flood hits parts of Mianwali again
MIANWALI, Aug 10 Floodwater from the River Indus again entered Purana Mari, Kalabagh and Kacha area and spread on both sides of the river from Jinnah Barrage to Chashma Barrage on Tuesday.
It is learnt that people of these areas are again moving to safer places since Monday night.
Khawaja Nasir, a former local council representative from Mari, said people were told to move to safer places after water level started rising on Monday. He said water inundated a key road leading to Mari and halted the relief operation on Tuesday.
Haji Sikandar from Kalabagh said Indus water inundated a road leading to Kalabagh on Tuesday and the people living in low lying areas of Kalabagh Town were moving to safer place since Monday night.
According to the local flood control centre, water discharge from Chashma and Jinnah barrages was expected to increase on Tuesday night because of rainfall upstream.
Relief work Government and civil society officials and individuals continued relief work in flood-hit areas of Mianwali on Tuesday.
On the orders of the chief minister, milk was distributed to the families of infants and toddlers in Marri Indus, Qamarmashani, Isakhel, Daudkel, Paikhel and Rakhari. Also, 200 pairs of shoes and clothes were given to children and women in the Marri Indus area.
Eleven relief centres have been established in different areas to be supervised by 15 officers for transparency.—Correspondent
